Returning to the Roots of Wicked Hues

Wicked Hues is turning six this year.

As I’ve taken time to reflect on the last few years, I’ve also realized that this season marks a return to my roots. Not a step backward, but a return to what mattered from the very beginning.

I didn’t open Wicked Hues because I wanted to own a salon. I opened it because I couldn’t find a space that supported what I felt so many people actually needed, myself included.

  • Too much noise.
  • Too many blow dryers running at once.
  • Too much gossip.
  • Too many eyes watching out of judgment instead of curiosity.
  • Too many distractions pulling focus away from the person in the chair.

I wanted something different.

Why Wicked Hues Exists

I wanted a space where curls weren’t treated as an inconvenience. Where diffusing wasn’t dismissed in favor of magazine blowouts. Where pricing reflected time and work, not gender.

I believe everyone deserves good hair so they can feel confident taking on the world.

Education matters here. When you understand how your hair works and how to care for it at home, you reduce damage, get better longevity from your results, and gain the ability to stretch appointments when life requires it. That kind of care builds trust, not dependence.

What Traditional Salon Culture Taught Me

Working in more traditional salon environments taught me a lot, especially about what doesn’t serve clients or stylists well.

I often found myself carrying responsibilities that went far beyond my role as a stylist. Troubleshooting software, explaining basic retail math, rebooting internet systems, or stepping in to resolve preventable issues so the day could keep moving. That work came at a cost.

It pulled my attention away from the people in my chair and contributed to an atmosphere that felt hectic and stressful for everyone in the space. Over time, it became clear that this kind of environment wasn’t aligned with the level of care I wanted to offer.

Another lesson became just as important. Pausing an appointment to answer walk-ins, stopping mid-service to take phone calls, or splitting attention between clients isn’t fair to the person who reserved that time.

When you book an appointment, you deserve my full presence.

That clarity is why Wicked Hues is built around systems that support uninterrupted care. The website exists to answer questions before you arrive. The app allows you to manage appointments without pressure. Email gives returning clients a direct line without disrupting a service. This structure allows me to stay focused, run on time, and give each person the attention they deserve.

Education, Craft, and Long-Term Hair Health

At the same time, I went deeper into the work itself.

  • Hair chemistry.
  • Color theory.
  • Curl structure.
  • Simpler, more sustainable blow-dry techniques.

Not to do more, but to do better.

Understanding the why behind the how allows me to protect hair integrity while still achieving results that last. Education is woven into every service so clients can care for their hair in a way that supports long-term health, not short-term fixes.

Thoughtful Products, Chosen with Care

Working independently also means I can stock and recommend products I truly believe in. Products I use myself, understand scientifically, and can stand behind with confidence.

Too many so-called curl products are created by brands that don’t genuinely value curls as a valid hair type. Often, they understand marketing better than they understand hair.

I choose to work with Eufora because the science supports the results and because the company’s values around hair health, sustainability for people and planet, and education align with my own. Every product on my shelf is there for a reason.

A Quieter Way to Be in the Chair

Wicked Hues exists so I can curate an atmosphere dedicated entirely to the person in my chair.

  • Your playlist.
  • Your drink of choice.
  • A quiet moment during a head massage to breathe and reset when the world feels loud.
  • A space where there’s no judgment, no nosy commentary, and no pressure to perform.
  • A place to turn off when the world demands so much of your attention.

Today, Wicked Hues is quieter by design. Slower on purpose. Focused on one person at a time. It’s a space meant to feel grounding, not rushed. Steady, not performative.

That’s what I set out to build six years ago.

And that’s what I’m continuing to offer, now more intentionally than ever.

If you’re looking for a calm, collaborative, education-first salon experience, Wicked Hues may be a good fit for you.
